Is ASD an Autoimmune Disease?

Chris McDougle, MD and Alessio Fasano, MD, present on the interplay between genes and the environment in the pathogenesis of autism spectrum disorders (ASDs), and discuss current research to support the notion that ASDs are autoimmune related disorders. The presentation also reviews some of the clinical evidence for immune dysfunction in a subgroup of individuals with ASD and a translational study of immune dysfunction in ASD is briefly described.
